Tyla, Brendan Peyper honoured at South African Music Awards
Here is the full list of all the winners at the 2026 South African Music Awards.
South African superstar Tyla continues to raise the South African flag high after she was honoured at this year’s South African Music Awards, while Afrikaans pop star Brendan Peyper also walked away with a major accolade.
History was made on Saturday, 15 August, at the Sun City Superbowl in the North West as some of the country’s biggest music stars were celebrated at the 32nd South African Music Awards (SAMA32).
Tyla, the 24-year-old two-time Grammy Award winner, received the AfriPure 'International Achievement Award', marking the second time she has received the honour, which she previously won in 2024.
During her acceptance speech, Tyla reflected on what the moment meant to her and spoke passionately about her South African roots. She said attending the SAMAs had been a dream of hers since she was young.
"Obviously, I had the dream of travelling the world and becoming a pop star, but a big dream of mine was to come to the Samas, and now I'm here, so it’s another thing I’m ticking off. Thank God! Yes."
The 'Water' hitmaker also spoke about navigating her career without having a roadmap to follow, saying there had never been a "Tyla" before her to show her which steps to take.
She thanked South Africans for supporting her as she grew both as an artist and a woman.
"South Africa runs through my veins. It shows in the way I speak and the way I dance," she said.
Tyla also paid tribute to Bacardi and Pretoria, recalling how performing Bacardi on stage to Water changed her life.
"I just love my country so much," she said.
She then used her moment on stage to celebrate fellow African artists, calling on names including Cassper Nyovest, Makhadzi, Babalwa, Zee and MaWhoo to join her and share the stage.

Another major recognition went to legendary producer and music entrepreneur Oskido. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Afrikaans pop star Brendan Peyper was also among the night’s winners, taking home the 'Beste Pop Album' award.
Gospel singer and songwriter HLE was another big winner. She took home both the Lesedi FM 'Female Artist of the Year' award and the SAMPRA 'Album of the Year' award for 'The Ground We’re On'.
