“After months of auditions across the continent, BET has identified the 12 potential heart-throb heroes and leading ladies from South, East and West Africa who’ll be gracing our TV screens in Top Actor Africa from February 2016,” said Thando Nkosi from the public relations company Total Exposure, on behalf of BET.

From South Africa was Cape Town’s Shamilla Miller, Durban’s Farrell Drew, and from Johannesburg Marilyn Sekgapane, Jesse Suntele, Hendrik Lombard, Simhle Belinda Plaatjies, and Sabelo Sibeko.

“Representing Nigeria are Tobechi Nneji, Uriel Oputa and Ifeanyi Dike, while flying the flag for Kenya are Lorreine Wangui Gakuo and Alexander Eliab Khainga,” said Nkosi.

These 12 candidates would have to undergo nine acting challenges across all genres whilst working with — and trying to impress — industry experts.

The winner will receive US$10,000, a one-year contract “with international representation and access to Hollywood auditions”, and of course, the title of “Top Actor Africa”, following in the footsteps of season one’s winner, Altovise Lawrence.

Lawrence was currently in the United States filming her first feature film, “The Other Side”. Her co-stars were Brad James who is best known for his role in Tyler Perry’s “For Better or Worse” and Erica Hubbard, a lead actress in the series “Lincoln Heights”.
