14-year-old killed by car driven by 12-year-old

A 12-year-old has been handed over to the Brakpan Police Station after a car driven by the child allegedly hit and killed a 14-year-old on Saturday afternoon.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Northdene and Medeley Street at about 13:45 pm.
In a statement, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department says it is alleged that the underage driver failed to stop at a stop sign before colliding with the pedestrian.
"According to initial reports, the victim was hit by a Mazda sedan allegedly driven by a 12-year-old boy. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found the body of the 14-year-old, who was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.
"The minor, reportedly accompanied by a guardian, was handed over to the Brakpan South African Police Service (SAPS) shortly after the incident. EMPD has confirmed that the suspect is expected to appear before the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court in the coming days," the statement read.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the child gained access to the vehicle.
