A 14-year-old pupil from Freedom Park Secondary School has been stabbed to death.
He was allegedly stabbed to death by a fellow pupil from the Soweto-based high school and is the 16th pupils to die in the province since the start of the academic year.
Spokesperson for the Gauteng Department of Education Steve Mabona says the boy was apparently stabbed after school near the two pupils’ homes.
Both pupils are in grade 10.

Mabona says the suspect fled the scene and is on the run.
"We take this time to send our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and the school community during this time of grief. No words are enough to express our sorrow at the loss of a child.
"We hope that the family will find comfort in the knowledge that we too share their loss.”
He adds: “We strongly condemn any acts of learner misconduct and relentlessly appeal to parents in assisting to enforce discipline in and outside the school environment."
