The annual campaign takes place between November 25 and December 10.

This year’s campaign comes days after gender-based violence and femicide were officially designated as a national disaster.

Chikunga said the department will officially release the five-year review of the National Strategic Plan.

She emphasised that the review shows gains in accountability, regular reporting from more than 30 departments, and improved unity across government.

“Under this road map, we have seen historic legislative reform, including amendments to the Criminal Law, Domestic Violence, and Criminal and Related Matters Acts,” said Chikunga.

Chikunga reiterated that the review will also include the passing of the National Council on Gender-Based Violence Act.

The minister commended the justice system for its work, adding that police stations now have more than 1,100 victim-friendly rooms along with 66 Thuthuzela Care Centres.

“We're also localising the NSP. Over 40,000 GBVF rapid response teams, in fact, 49 of them, have been established across districts and municipalities.

“Through 100 Days Challenge and the National Gender-Based Violence and Femicide Dashboard, communities have shown that where and when we focus together, we can unblock cases, speed up protection orders, and strengthen coordination in months, not years.”

Moreover, the minister said the private sector has stepped up to fund the GBVF Response Fund.

Chikunga also challenged the media, including influencers, to utilise their platforms to combat GBVF.
