This after police arrested two suspects for allegedly abducting and holding three initiates hostage in Duduza, outside Nigel.

In the statement Maile said the three initiatives, aged between 16 and 18, were forcefully kept and locked in a house in Duduza.

“We commend the police on their relentless effort to clamp down on illegal initiation schools in the province.

"We are concerned as government that some sections in our communities are undermining the authority of the state by engaging in illegal activities, such as initiation schools.”

A case of abduction and running of an illegal initiation school has been opened.

"The initiation season has been suspended in the province due to Covid-19 and lockdown regulations as announced by the national government,” said Maile.

"Anyone operating an initiation school is acting in defiance of the lockdown as announced by government.”

The two suspects are expected to appear in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court soon.
