A 4-year-old child was killed by a speeding vehicle in downtown Johannesburg on Tuesday when a suspect tried to evade police.
This comes after a 32-year-old man failed to stop for police in Hillbrow, giving rise to a high-speed chase.
Three people were knocked over by the fleeing motorist, including the toddler.
The suspect lost control later and collided with another vehicle.
Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubele says two others were injured.
“The suspect tried to run away but he was arrested.”
During a car search, police recovered unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
“It was established that the vehicle was hijacked in Ekurhuleni this month
“The six firearms will be sent for ballistics tests to determine whether they were used in the commission of other serious crimes and violent crimes in the province.
“The suspect will be profiled to check if he was involved in other crimes that happened in Gauteng.”
The 32-year-old man will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
