9 to appear in court for ‘mob attack’ at Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital

Police in Krugersdorp have arrested nine suspects in connection with a suspected mob attack outside the Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital in Krugersdorp on Sunday.
A group of angry community members assaulted a man outside the hospital on Sunday.
The man was apparently targeted after he was allegedly involved in a murder in Munsieville, on the West Rand.
Police spokesperson Gloria Maswanganye says members of the community followed the man to the hospital, damaged property and assaulted the man.
"About 60 community members of Munsieville went to Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital on Sunday, some were walking and some were packed in two minibuses.
“They overpowered security and went into the hospital and vandalised the equipment and the building.”
The group then went inside the hospital to look for the suspect.
"They grabbed him and took him outside the hospital and assaulted him,” Maswanganye says.
Police arrived at the hospital and rescued the suspect from the crowd.
"Police took the suspect to another hospital where he was arrested and remains under police guard."
The two minibuses that transported some of the community members to the hospital have been confiscated.
The nine suspects are expected to appear at the Krugersdorp Magistrates Court on Tuesday on a charge of malicious damage to property.
Police are investigating the possibility of adding a charge of assault against the suspects.
