AA predicts early Christmas present for motorists
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Motorists can expect an early Christmas present with predictions of a drop on the fuel price in December.
The Automobile Association (AA) predicts that petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin, will all drop by around R1,00 ahead of the festive season.
“The current data predicts a massive drop of R1.54 per litre for petrol, with diesel dropping by 92 cents and illuminating paraffin by 85 cents”, says AA spokesperson Layton Beard.
The main contributing factor to the drop include a decline in the international oil price and the rand’s relative strength against the US dollar.
The AA, however, warns the re-introduction of a slate levy may have impact on the predicted price.
“The Department of Energy recently re-introduced the use of the slate levy to manage price changes, and the association cannot rule out the possibility that this may impact the final figure,” Beard says.
