Acting Tshwane mayor: We feel vindicated
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Acting Tshwane mayor Abel Tau has welcomed the interim relief granted to the Democratic Alliance (DA) by the high court in Pretoria on Friday.
“This really does vindicate our position, from the minute that illegal council ensued – it was very clear that we would be going to court,” says mayoral spokesperson, Omogolo Taunyane.
MMC Abel Tau is standing in for mayor Stevens Mokgalapa while he’s on leave until next year January.
The African National Congress (ANC) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are set to present arguments to the court on 17 December why the resolutions passed by the council this week should stand.
The council voted to remove Mokgalapa and council speaker Katlego Mathebe, but the high court suspended the resolutions passed after the DA dubbed the proceedings illegal.
Taunyane says service delivery will not be affected as its council gears up for a massive court battle.
