ActionSA opens criminal case against Tolashe over luxury car ‘donation’
Updated | By Bulletin / Jacaranda FM Newswatch
ActionSA has opened a criminal case against Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe over undeclared luxury vehicles from Chinese officials.
The party also lodged complaints with the Public Protector and Parliament’s Ethics on Wednesday.
The Daily Maverick has written a series of articles detailing alleged maladministration, including the irregular appointment of Tolashe’s chief of staff, Lesedi Mabiletja.
In the latest report, the minister allegedly received two luxury SUVs from Chinese officials and handed the vehicles to her children.
When questioned by Parliament, Tolashe reportedly misled lawmakers by claiming the vehicles were donated to the African National Congress Women’s League.
The ANC mother body and the women’s league have denied any knowledge of the alleged donation.
ActionSA spokesperson Dereleen James has called for the minister’s immediate dismissal.
She says the incident highlights the need for stricter anti-corruption measures and accountability:
“For a minister to act so brazenly reflects a deeply entrenched culture of impunity within the GNU government. It confirms what millions of South Africans already suspect: that those in power believe that the rules do not apply to them.”
