Additional rape kits to be rolled out in SA

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has begun rolling out of new evidence collection kits to be distributed to the various provinces.
Police have confirmed a three-year contract with a supplier to provide the new evidence collection kits, following reports of a shortage at police stations.
On Friday police, signed a procurement contract to supply a variety of evidence collection kits.
The supplier will provide 13 different types of evidence collection kits including, adult sexual assault kits, paediatric sexual assault kits and Buccal sample collection kits.
National police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo says they evidence collection kits were previously supplied on a quotation basis.
Police say a detailed distribution plan has been designed and implemented.
