After taking the stand, Khakhu heads back to court

The trial of Lindray Khakhu, alleged to have shot dead three-year-old Luke Tibbetts in Westbury, will continue in the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge on Wednesday.

Khakhu took to the stand on Tuesday where he admitted to having possibly killed Tibbetts.

He said it was probable that it was a bullet fired from his gun that killed the toddler who had been sitting on his mother's lap in a vehicle.

Tibbetts was shot in the head as Khakhu allegedly opened fire at Keenan Mokwena who was in another car.

Other than Tibbetts' murder, the 22-year-old faces a string of charges including another of murder, five of attempted murder, 10 of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, and one of pointing a firearm.

He has pleaded not guilty to all 18 charges.

In a grilling cross-examination, prosecutor Deon van Wyk accused Khakhu of giving false evidence as he denied the charges against him.

Khakhu did not respond to Van Wyk's allegation.

Van Wyk argued that a pattern had emerged in Khakhu's behaviour.

He provoked a confrontation and then pulled out his firearm.

He also told the court that Khakhu and his family had tried to manipulate witnesses to soften the case against him.

Khakhu was alleged to have sent his ex-girlfriend and witness Zhane van der Westhuizen smses apologising for how he had treated her and asking for her help.

His mother phoned her to find out if she was testifying in the case.

According to Van der Westhuizen, Khakhu sent her sister a Facebook message saying the reason Van der Westhuizen was testifying against him was because she was dating a local druglord.
