Moloi’s face was splashed across social media and news outlets earlier this year when a video emerged of him running off with a packed Woolworths basket during the country’s unrest.

The 30-year-old Durban man businessman was arrested soon after.

He faces charges of theft and public violence for being among looters who ransacked the Glenwood store in July.

Provincial spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Natasha Kara says Moloi’s Mercedes Benz C300 Coupe was seized.

“The car which was preserved on the basis that it is an instrumentality of the offences, has an estimated market value of about R507 000. The car will remain with the state until the court grants a forfeiture order.”

Moloi, who is out on R5000 bail, is expected back in court next month.
