Alleged car thief nabbed on flight
A suspected car thief has been dragged from an airplane at OR Tambo International Airport.
The suspect, who was on a flight to Harare, had been sought by police since 2014.
The South African Police Service's (SAPS) Vishnu Naidoo says the plane had to return to its parking bay after authorities were alerted to the man’s presence on the flight.
Naidoo says the suspect allegedly failed to return a rental vehicle.
“An Airport Aviation Safety officer together with SAPS detectives then boarded the aircraft and the suspect was subsequently arrested."
The man is set to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrates Court soon.
Naidoo says this is one of several arrests made at the airport since the upgrading of security at the airport last month.
“This arrest comes after at least five other notable successes in the past few weeks, but more importantly the new revised intervention is proving to be equally effective proactively as it is reactively," says Naidoo.
