A 45-year-old man appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Monday for his alleged involvement in the activities that led to massive destruction to property and the loss of lives in parts of the country last week.
Bruce Aldrin Nimmerhoudt was charged with inciting to commit public violence following his arrest in Witpoortjie on Friday.
Nimmerhoudt is believed to be the voice behind one of the recordings circulating on social media.
The man in the voice note could be heard spurring on residents in and around Krugersdorp, Randfontein and Roodepoort to commit public violence.
“The case was postponed to 26 July 2021 after a request from the State Advocate, Enock Makua for the state to be given an opportunity to conclude investigations in preparation for the bail hearing,” says provincial spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) lPhindi Mjonondwane.
“The NPA continues to urge members of the public to refrain from creating and circulating messages that seek to instigate communities to act in a violent manner, instill fear and/or undermine the efforts of rebuilding for the good of our country. “
A total of six suspects have been arrested for the looting and violence that gripped the country, halted most economic activity in provinces, and tested the country’s security forces.
