Analyst: Ramaphosa worried about perception “that he is not in charge”
Political analyst Ralph Mathekga believes that President Cyril Ramaphosa is worried about the public perception that he is not in charge of the African National Congress (ANC).
On Monday, Ramaphosa led an ANC briefing as the party’s president, in which the top leaders answered questions on the outcomes of the special meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) held over the week end.
Many questioned why Ramaphosa read the party's NEC statement instead of party Secretary General Ace Magashule.
“He is more worried about the perception that he is not in charge. The statement of the NEC is usually read out by the Secretary General.

"I think for me it means he is listening and being worried about the perception that the Secretary General is too compromised to read out a message of anti corruption," says Mathekga.
Furthermore, Mathekga has disputed speculation that Ramaphosa's "camp" may be gaining ranks within the NEC.
"I mean if the President is reacting to that it does not mean that the President is suddenly in power."
