This comes as the governing party is appealing a ruling in the High Court in Johannesburg ordering that Supra Mahumapelo should return to his position as ANC chairperson in the province.

Mahumapelo and four others turned to the courts to challenge a decision by the ANC’s national executive committee last to disband the provincial executive committee.

In a statement on Monday the NEC said a rapid response team, which includes the party’s deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte and Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, will continue to work with the PEC and the provincial task team to find political solution that would negate the need for any further court action.

“Seventy-eight days before the national and provincial elections, all ANC leaders and members in the North West must focus all their energies into the elections campaign, reaching out to voters in towns, villages, farms and mining areas. The ANC is convinced that its process of building unity with the PEC and PTT will result in a resounding victory in the coming elections,” the NEC said in its statement.

“The NEC also urged the provincial and local government led by the ANC to redouble efforts to provide quality services in the province.”
