ANC: ‘Billing crisis worse under DA'
Former Johannesburg mayor Parks Tau believes the city’s billing problems has worsened under the DA-led administration.
Briefing the media, the ANC in the greater Johannesburg region described the city’s billing issues as "unprecedented". Tau says the city is in a financial crisis.
"The City has experienced a revenue under-billing of R2.4 billion. This means the City is now only able to deliver services in the short term using borrowed funds. This position is not sustainable and it will show in a few months’ time when a drop in service delivery levels become visible,” says Tau.
Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba said last week that he would take personal charge of the city’s billing issues.
“It is clear that Herman Mashaba and the DA is overwhelmed and inexperienced to lead a city such as Joburg," Tau says.
