The party addressed the media on Tuesday following a provincial executive committee meeting.

The provincial executive committee recently hit the headlines after it decided that party members facing “prosecutorial procedures”, including former eThekwini mayor and newly sworn-in MPL Zandile Gumede, should immediately step aside.

The party's provincial secretary Mdumiseni Ntuli reaffirmed on Tuesday that no member will be allowed to resume duties until the integrity commission has pronounced on their fate.

"All of this comrades will go to the integrity commission and we will await the report of that integrity commission but without that report, they are not expected to resume any duties.

“The integrity commission will make an assessment and determine the extent to which the case and the continuation of these comrades in a position will affect the image of the ANC. If the commission recommends that the comrades resign, they will have to resign.”

Ntuli said the 11 party members asked to step aside are mostly senior members and councillors.

"Based on the report we are dealing with 10 or 11 comrades, many of who are councillors and in some instances we received new developments on the cases. The PEC agreed that it is inappropriate to release the list to the public with incomplete information.”
