ANC officials meet over Tshwane unrest
High ranking ANC officials were meeting behind closed doors on Tuesday following a flare up in violence in areas in the City of Tshwane.
Protestors have threatened to shut down Tshwane, demanding Kgosientso "Sputla" Ramokgopa be named the ANC mayoral candidate ahead of the local government election on 3 August.
The ANC spokesperson in Tshwane, Teboho Joala, said several meetings were held on Tuesday morning, but senior officials were expected to meet at 12.00pm.
"The meeting at 12.00pm will involve members of the provincial structure and then some national leaders will be there," Joala said.
Joala said meetings were held so that officials could go and address communities.
"From an ANC point of view, there are committees that has been set up to go to the communities and stakeholders to communicate and speak to them."
Joala added that the ANC was disappointed in the unrest.
"We are doing everything we can within our capacity and power to ensure that sanity prevails and services and normal life is restored in our communities."
