Another massive jump in new coronavirus cases

South Africa has recorded 2 642 new cases of Covid-19 in
the 24 hours leading to Friday evening.
The country ends the first week of Level 3 lockdown with a total of 43 434 cases.
The Western Cape remains the epicenter of the outbreak in South Africa, with a total of 28 807 cases.
In his daily statement, Health Minister Zweli Mkize says 60 more people died of the disease.
The death toll has risen to 908.

The president's announcement comes a day after the hardest-hit sub-Saharan African country recorded 3,267 new COVID-19 cases, its biggest single-day jump during the pandemic. The Western Cape province, a popular tourist destination, accounts for more than 66 percent of South Africa's 40,792 infections and over 70 percent of its 848 deaths.
