"We are extremely saddened by this and we wish to express our deep condolences to the deceased employee's family, friends, and colleagues," said Maake.
The worker died in a "fall of ground" incident, which is now being investigated.
The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu)'s Matthew Grant has said the union is shocked and saddened by fatality and is calling for greater accountability through tougher regulation of mine safety.
"Harmony Gold still leads with fatalities in the mining sector for 2019. We fear that should this trend continue, we may face a disaster in the mining industry as we did last year," said Grant. "Amcu again calls for immediate and direct intervention from the Minister for the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy."
