Assault charges dropped against Tom Moyane

The National Prosecution Authority (NPA) has confirmed that will not prosecute suspended South African Revenue Service (Sars) commissioner, Tom Moyane, for alleged assault.
Prosecutors have decided not to prosecute Moyane for alleged assault of the mother of his grandchild and son.
Contradictions in the statements presented by witnesses and the complainants led to the case being dropped.

“Upon studying the contents of the docket, the NPA realised that there were contradictions and therefore this matter could not proceed with prosecution,” says the NPA’s Phindi Mjonondwane.
Mjonondwane confirmed that both Moyane’s son and his girlfriend opened a case after an altercation at his Roodepoort home in May this year.
She says prosecutors found “no prospects of a successful prosecution”.
“You check the statements of the witnesses who were there, who witnessed the incident, check if they corroborate the statements of the complainants and once you have then you are certain that you will be able to prove you case in court.”
The news leaves the embattled Moyane with one less legal headache as he waits for Advocate Azar Bham’s outcome on his misconduct inquiry.
Earlier in July, President Cyril Ramaphosa responded to Moyane’s grievance that two different probes into his conduct is unfair.
