ATM to oppose Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala review application
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has confirmed it will oppose President Cyril Ramaphosa’s application to review the findings of the independent panel on Phala Phala.
The panel found the president’s response to the theft of foreign currency from his farm in 2020 may have violated the Constitution and breached anti-corruption laws .
Ramaphosa has now filed a review application to the apex court, asking it to set aside the Section 89 panel’s damning findings.
ATM president Vuyo Zungula says they remain convinced that Ramaphosa is not being honest in his account of events.
“Ramaphosa continues to demonstrate unwillingness to account, and at every given opportunity stifles the very process that is designed by the architects of this democracy to keep the president and his executive accountable.
“It is unthinkable that Mr Ramaphosa went around making admissions of his violations and when the Independent Panel finds, he has a case to answer; instead of taking this opportunity to clear his name, he takes a posture contrary to his entrancement of the rule of law ticket which he rose to power with.”
Zungula says Ramaphosa needs to account to those who gave him a mandate - the voters of South Africa.
“The ATM will oppose this dishonest self serving attempt to hide the truth and ask the Constitutional Court not to be part of this Phala Phala saga cover-up by rejecting this application.”
