Attempted hit on man implicated in Madlanga Commission
Gauteng police are investigating a case of attempted murder following an attempted hit on a man who was implicated by a witness in the Madlanga Commission.
The victim, Wiandre Pretorius, was ambushed by the assailants in a drive-by shooting in Van Dyk Park, Boksburg, on Thursday.
His bakkie was shot at 16 times as he was driving into residence on Klapper Street.
Pretorius was implicated in the testimony of slain Marius van der Merwe at the Madlanga Commission.
Van der Merwe, known as Witness D, was himself shot and killed after giving evidence.
"The suspects fired shots at him before driving away. The victim escaped unharmed, and the motive of the shooting is unknown,” said police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.
In his testimony, Van der Merwe implicated Pretorius in the death of an Ekurhuleni man, Emmanuel Mbhense, whose body was found dumped at a lake in Germiston, allegedly at the instruction of Ekurhuleni metro police officers.
Mbhense was allegedly killed by members of EMPD in April 2022.
Van der Merwe testified that Mbhense was allegedly tortured and murdered by a group consisting of law enforcement officials and private security personnel.
On Wednesday, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate said it has concluded its investigation into the murder of Mbhense, and the investigation docket was referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions for a decision
