Baleka Mbete not aware of full Cabinet reshuffle
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
National Assembly speaker Baleka Mbete says she was not informed of the extent of the Cabinet reshuffle before President Jacob Zuma made the announcement on Friday.
Mbete addressed the media this afternoon.
She says she was present at a meeting where the intelligence report surrounding former finance minister Pravin Gordhan and his deputy Mcebisi Jonas was discussed.
However, Mbete says no mention was made about any other possible changes to President Jacob Zuma's executive during that meeting.
Mbete cut short a working visit to Bangladesh after receiving requests from the EFF and DA for Parliament to convene a special sitting to debate a motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma.
Parliament is in recess until 9 May.
Mbete says she will begin a consultative process on the request for Parliament to resume earlier than scheduled.
The EFF and DA have requested that the special sitting be convened this week.
"Once the consultative process is concluded, my office will duly write to all the parties involved of the outcome," she says.
Zuma announced a major Cabinet reshuffle after midnight on Friday.
A total of 20 changes have been made to the executive.
