Bodies of 3 boys found in Hammanskraal stormwater trench
Updated | By Martine van der Walt Ehlers
The bodies of three young boys have been found in an under-construction stormwater trench in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria.
The three bodies were found on Saturday afternoon amid the heavy rains and strong winds in the area.
Paramedics declared the three boys dead at the scene after passers-by discovered the bodies.
"Engagements with the local community indicate that the storm on Friday blew some barricades into the site which the young boys were then using to swim and play within the trench,” says Tshwane mayoral spokesperson Jordan Griffiths.
"MMC Dikeledi Selowa has met with senior officials in the Roads and Transport Department, the site project manager, contractor and safety officers."
The Tshwane metro police is investigating the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
"TMPD officers have been tasked to secure and patrol the site,” says Griffiths.
