The Gauteng Political Killings Task Team has discovered the body of a missing Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) member, 51-year-old Aaron Makola, who was reported missing earlier this month.
Makola was last seen on 10 July 2026 in Bronkhorstspruit. His vehicle was later found abandoned a day after his disappearance, raising concerns about his safety.
The Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) began investigating the case on 20 July 2026 after engaging with the victim’s family and gathering key information related to his disappearance.
Following an extensive investigation, authorities traced Makola to Delmas, where his body was found on Thursday. Preliminary findings indicate that he was shot and killed before his body was dumped in a bush.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed the development, saying the investigation had gained significant ground.
"This was a coordinated and intelligence-driven operation. Our members worked tirelessly to trace the whereabouts of the victim, which ultimately led to the discovery of his body in Delmas."
His family has since positively identified the body.
Mathe added that investigators are closing in on those responsible for the killing.
"Investigations are at an advanced stage to identify and apprehend those responsible for the murder, including both the perpetrators and any individuals who may have orchestrated the crime."
The task team is continuing its investigation to determine the motive behind the murder.
"We are following all possible leads to establish the motive behind this killing. We urge anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward," Mathe added.
Police have appealed to members of the public to assist with any information that may lead to arrests.
