Boschkop man’s HIV infection case returns to court
A 47-year-old Boschkop man is expected to return to the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he will face an attempted murder charge for allegedly infecting his 38-year-old girlfriend with HIV.
According to Gauteng NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, the man is accused of concealing his HIV status during the couple’s relationship, which lasted from October 2025 until June 2026, by telling the complainant that he was HIV negative.
Mahanjana says the complainant discovered antiretroviral medication in the accused’s bag in June and confronted him. It is alleged that the accused then admitted he was HIV positive and claimed he had deliberately infected her because he did not want her to be with another person.
The complainant later underwent an HIV test at a medical facility on 25 July and was informed that she had tested positive.
She reported the matter to the police the following day, resulting in the accused’s arrest.
The accused is expected back in court to obtain bail information.
