Man nabbed for trying to sell cheetah, lion bones

A 42-year-old Botswana national is expected to appear in the
Kuruman Magistrates Court on Monday in connection with illegal activities
involving protected species.
The suspect was arrested on Friday while attempting to sell a live cheetah and lion bones to a potential buyer.
Hawks spokesperson Nomthandazo Mnisi says the transaction was already arranged when the unit pounced.
"The Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Unit alongside Kuruman's Highway Patrol and Stock Theft Unit confronted the suspect.
"He was found in possession of one live cheetahs and several lion bones.
"The cheetah received medical attention and will be kept at a sanctuary for rehabilitation.”
The cheetah and the lion bones have an estimated street value of around R400 000.
