Boy appears in court for gran's murder

A teenager who allegedly killed his grandmother with a sword made a brief appearance in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Dressed in a grey and black T-shirt, the brown-haired 16-year-old was informed his case was postponed to March 11.
He may not be named as he is a minor.
His father walked to the front of the court and stood beside him as proceedings began on Wednesday. The boy hardly made any eye contact with his father or the court gallery.
He quickly made his way down the court stairs when proceedings adjourned without saying anything to his father.
Speaking outside court, his lawyer Aadil Lambat explained that the postponement was due to them still awaiting an opening at a psychiatric hospital.
The State had agreed to the defence's request that the teen be sent for mental observation.
The boy allegedly killed his grandmother in December last year. The motive for the attack was unknown.
He remains in custody.
