Brink: ActionSA 'used' to hand control of Tshwane to ANC-EFF coalition
Updated | By Lebohang Ndashe
Former Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink says ActionSA's newly elected mayor will be controlled by the ANC and EFF coalition.
He believes she will need to prioritise their interests above the needs of residents.
The statement comes after Brink's removal from office, which was triggered by a motion of no confidence.
ActionSA’s Nasiphi Moya is the city's seventh mayor since 2016 following her election during a special council meeting on Wednesday.
“The ANC in Gauteng has formed a coalition with the EFF and other parties opposed to the government of national unity to take control the capital city,” Brink said.
The former mayor slammed the African National Congress for prioritising its internal conflicts over the well-being of the city's residents, pointing out that the Democratic Alliance gave the ANC multiple opportunities to avoid Wednesday’s mayoral election.
“The ANC has made every effort to prevent any party other than itself from governing the metro,” Brink said.
Brink blamed the ANC and EFF government for the multitude of challenges that have plagued the city.
“ANC administrators were ejected in Tshwane by court order, but they left the city with a more than R4 billion budget deficit. Predictably, the same faction in Gauteng was the one that enticed ActionSA away from the multi-party coalition with the promise of the mayor’s seat,” the former mayor added.
