Brixton substation repairs ‘on track’ - City Power
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the utility remains on track to complete repairs to the Brixton substation by the end of the week.
The Brixton transformer was gutted by a fire on Sunday, leaving thousands of residents in the area without power.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the two mini substations are due to be installed on Wednesday.
"Work has been continuing very well around the Brixton fire. The contractor on site has managed to lay the ground for the two mini substations that will be brought aside and installed later today (Wednesday), and we will be dealing with some of the excavations because of some of the damage that has been caused to the cables."
He adds that more digging needs to be done to ensure the correct installation of the substations.
"We need to dig to find the safer part of the cable to be able to connect the new mini substations properly and after completing the work we will continue with the installation of the ring main unit which will also assist with the capacity needed to replace the damaged transformer substation."
