Case against Brown Mogotsi postponed for pre-trial proceedings
The case against alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi has been postponed in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court to 20 August.
Mogotsi faces charges including perjury, defeating the ends of justice and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition after he allegedly faked an assassination attempt on him.
Ballistic reports have linked the firearm used in the incident to other serious crimes, including murder, but the weapon has not been recovered.

“The postponement follows the court’s dismissal of the defence’s application requesting the State to provide further particulars. The court found that the State had already furnished the defence with the full contents of the docket and had complied with its disclosure obligations,” said National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole.
PREVIOUS APPEARANCE
At his last appearance, Mogotsi’s lawyer, Makau Sekgatja, requested more time for further consultations.
Sekgatja told the court that the postponement was necessary to allow the defence team and Mogotsi to examine newly submitted State evidence.
The evidence allegedly shows Mogotsi shooting his own vehicle, in contradiction to his claim that he was targeted in an attempted assassination.
The attorney said the defence had experienced difficulties reviewing the footage with Mogotsi due to Correctional Services regulations that prohibit electronic devices inside correctional facilities.
He added that the state has since arranged for Mogotsi and his legal team to view the evidence at the next court appearance.
FAILED BAIL BID
Last week, the High Court in Johannesburg dismissed Mogotsi's appeal application, wherein he sought to overturn the Johannesburg Magistrates Court’s decision to deny him bail.
His initial bail application was refused by the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
The same court dismissed his second bail attempt after his legal team filed an application based on new facts.
