Bus services to remain suspended
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
Bus drivers embarked on a nationwide strike on Wednesday.
The nationwide bus strike will continue on Friday, amid ongoing talks between unions and employers.
The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) confirmed that negotiations were still underway late on Thursday.
Unions are demanding a 12% increase across the board with a minimum basic wage of R8 000, while employers are offering a three-year agreement with 7% for the first year, 7.25% in 2019 and 7.5% for 2020.
Bus drivers have vowed to continue with the industrial action until management gives in to their demands.
Satawu's Zanele Sabela said there were some positive signs at the discussions in Johannesburg.
"The good thing we can see out of there is that they (the talks) haven't broken down since they started."
She added while the talks were "good spirited" they never expected them to be easy, given the fact that negotiations broke down previously.
Two commissioners from the Council for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) are assisting in the discussions.
