Cable theft leaves Pretoria East in the dark, again
Updated | By Suné du Toit
Just hours after power supply was restored to several suburbs in Pretoria East, residents are back in the dark due to cable theft.
The City of Tshwane's Selby Bokaba says cable were stolen in Garsfontein Road shortly after technicians restored power following a fire at the Mooikloof substation.
"Our team is onsite to establish the scope of the damage," says Bokaba.
Bokaba says the Pretoria East Hospital, Woodhill, Parkview Mall, Moreleta church and about 120 households are affected.
He says the city is appealing to residents to help them in the fight against cable theft.
"It is not only the responsibility of the City of Tshwane to stop cable theft. It is also the responsibility of citizens to contact the police when they see individuals approach substations," says Bokaba.
