Cachalia visits families of Westbury mass shooting
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia is set to visit the families of two people who were killed in a mass shooting in Westbury, Johannesburg.
Thursday’s shooting also wounded a 15-month-old baby.
The visit, scheduled on Saturday, will see the minister also visit those who were injured during the attack in hospital.
"It is reported that the five victims were at corner Lark Spur Court and Jacaranda Court, when they were attacked by an unknown number of suspects," said spokesperson for the ministry, Kamogelo Mogotsi.
The shooting is believed to be gang related.
In October last year, two teenagers were killed in a suspected gang-related shooting in Westbury.
The shooting comes weeks after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the deployment of the South African National Defence Force to Gauteng to help police fight gang violence and illegal mining.
