Cape Town man nabbed for R6.3m drug haul

The Hawks have arrested a 30-year-old Cape Town man for possession of drugs worth more than R6.3 million.
The man was nabbed after a team from the Hawks and the police tracked a container ship at Cape Town Harbour.
"The container shipment was loaded with MDMA (ecstasy powder) worth an estimated R6.3 million and ecstasy tablets valued of R70 000 concealed within a consignment of furniture at Cape Town Harbour," says the Hawks’ Philani Nkwalase.

The drugs were allegedly on its way to the suspect's residence in Durbanville from Europe.
"During the search at the house the joint team confiscated approximately 1kg of hydroponic cannabis with an estimated street value of R120 000, as well as equipment used for the cultivation of hydroponic cannabis," says Nkwalase.
