CASAC: Brian Molefe is not fit to be an MP
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution has questioned the fitness of former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe to be a Member of Parliament.
Last week Parliament confirmed Molefe would be sworn as an ANC MP to fill a vacancy in the ANC’s North West list.
CASAC’s Executive Director Lawson Naidoo has questioned the decision, in light of Molefe being implicated in the Public Protector's state capture report.
"He himself admitted that he was stepping down in order to preserve good corporate governance in Eskom and left a number of unanswered questions," Naidoo says.
Naidoo says although the public protector’s report made no adverse findings regarding Molefe, leaving Eskom was an acknowledgement that he would negatively impact on Eskom.
"By his own admission Molefe was not fit to serve Eskom. It is clear he is not fit to hold any public office. His nomination to the National Assembly reflects poorly on the ANC" Naidoo says.
