The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has provisionally withdrawn the case against 36 taxi drivers from Vereeniging.
The drivers were arrested after blockading several streets with their vehicles, burning tyres and rocks during a protest over unfinished taxi stands on Wednesday.
The 36 drivers appeared on charges of public violence in the local magistrate's court on Friday.

Spokesperson for the NPA in Gauteng, Phindi Mjonondwane, says the case was provisionally withdrawn to allow the police to investigate the case further.
"Reasons being they are outstanding investigations that the NPA would like the police to conduct, and then bring the docket back to the NPA for a decision.”
