Case opened against deputy minister for alleged assault
The Ministry of Police has confirmed that a case was opened at the Douglasdale Police Station after a woman was allegedly assaulted by Deputy Minister of Education Mduduzi Manana.
Police spokesperson Vuyo Mhaga says they have instructed police to look into the matter.
"We will only be able to issue out a formal statement later in the day," Mhaga says.
Last night, images of a woman who was allegedly assaulted by Manana went viral on social media.
The incident apparently took place at a restaurant in Fourways over the weekend.
Pictures show a woman with a badly bruised eye, neck and knee.

The incident allegedly took place after a heated debate over on the African National Congress' (ANC) succession race.
A clip also emerged, purporting to be the deputy minister and the victim's brother discussing the alleged incident on the phone.
In a part of the clip, the man admits that he assaulted the woman.
Manana and the Department of Higher Education have not been available for comment.
