Cele: 7 nabbed for Babita Deokaran murder ‘regarded as hitmen’

Police Minister Bheki Cele says investigations into the murder of Gauteng whistleblower Babita Deokaran have only just begun.
The 53-year-old a senior official in the Gauteng Department of Health was killed in the south of Johannesburg soon after she dropped off her child at school on Monday.
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has since confirmed that Deokaran was one of its witnesses in the multi-million rand protective personal equipment tender fraud investigation.
“I’m told by the police that this is just the beginning. Those are arrested are regarded as hitmen which means we have to find the bosses, the pay masters. We believe when this work is done it will tell us a good story” said Cele.
The police minister was speaking outside the home a female police officer was killed in an attack by a group of unknown suspects at a store in Tembisa, east of Johannesburg.
