Chief Justice interviews to get underway 1 February
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has set a date to get the interviews for the position of Chief Justice underway.
The final four candidates for the top job will be grilled by the panel from 1-4 February in Sandton.
Candidates include acting chief justice Raymond Zondo, Constitutional Court Judge Mbuyiseli Madlanga, President of the Supreme Court of Appeal Judge Mandisa Maya, and Gauteng Judge President Dunston Mlambo.
The nomination process didn’t go off without a hitch.
The nomination of embattled Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe and Ouvkic Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane sent tongues wagging last year.
Mkhwebane dropped out of the race in October, while Hlophe didn’t make the final cut when President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the shortlist later that month.
Former Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng’s term as the head of South Africa’s judiciary came to an end at the start of October last year.
