The Free State Department of Labour says a total of 66 child labourers have been rescued from three different farms in the province.

The children had been found to be living under inhumane conditions.

Spokesperson for the provincial labour department, Josial Ramokoena, says the seasonal child labourers lived on rotten meat and stayed in plastic shelters.

He says the 66 children were found on three different farms near Wesselsbron and Allanridge, since Friday.

According to Ramokoena, some of the children were paid below minimum wage, while others had allegedly not received any payment, despite having worked on the farms since May.
