Power supply to affected areas is expected to be fully restored on Tuesday.

Several areas in Johannesburg have been without electricity for weeks following a fire that broke out on the M1 bridge almost two weeks ago.

The fire was reportedly caused by acts of vandalism and copper cable theft.

City Power's spokesperson Isaac Mangena said the power supply will be momentarily interrupted between 08:00 and 10:00 to move the load back to the Braamfontein substation.

"Yesterday, the newly installed 88kV cable passed the test and shortly after that, it was livened up. This morning, the team will be moving the load from some of the contingency measures that were put in place such as interconnectors and a generator. That load will be moved back to the 88kV cable.

"The team has been providing supply to some customers using interconnector cables. Because those cables are not designed to carry a huge load, we could not restore all customers at once. But as of yesterday, more than 90% of customers had already been restored using those temporary measures," said Mangena.
