City Power warns of fake notice circulating in the south of Joburg
Updated | By Neo Motloung
City Power has dismissed claims that it will be installing new electricity meters in Vlakfontein and Phumlamqashi.
Spokesperson for the Johannesburg power entity, Isaac Mangena, says City Power is aware of this 'fake notice' circulating in these communities.
"The badly-written note, which is not even on an official City Power letterhead, seems to seek to solicit money from the residents in exchange for the meters.
"Under the headline 'Customer Information and Agreement', the note suggests that it is responding to the voluntary request for services by the residents," says Mangena.
He says according to the notice, a resident is required to pay R250 registration fee and "full cost installation fee" of R1 250.
"We would like to warn the residents to ignore this letter as it is not coming from City Power or the City of Johannesburg.
"City Power does not have a project to install meters in the area and when we do, we will follow all the processes including convening a community meeting along with the ward councillor prior to the start of the project," adds Mangena.
