City of Tshwane in court to stop ‘illegal’ bus strike
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The City of Tshwane will be in court on Tuesday in an attempt to bring to an end to what it believes to be an illegal strike by Tshwane Bus Service employees.
Spokesperson Selby Bokaba says the city will be applying for an urgent interdict.
“Management has been engaging with the union representatives in a quest to get them to abandon the unprotected strike and to return to work,” says Bokaba.
“But the negotiations were futile as the employees dug in their heels and vowed to continue the strike.”

It’s been almost a week since the employees downed tools in protest against the arrest of a colleague for driving in a dedicated BRT lane.
Bokaba warns that employees who do not return to work by the end of Tuesday will face disciplinary proceedings.
“If the striking employees do not return to work today, disciplinary proceedings will be instituted against them. The no work no pay rule will be implemented against the employees that participated in the illegal strike.”
