Claremont residents protest over lack of water
Updated | By Emile Pienaar
Protesting residents of Claremont, northwest of Johannesburg, have blocked off streets in the area.
They are demanding the immediate restoration of the area’s water supply.
Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla said Ontdekkers Road in Claremont has been barricaded with rocks and burning tyres.
"It is understood that the residents are protesting over prolonged water outages in the area," said Fihla.
"Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department officers are currently monitoring the protest, and the situation is calm despite the closure. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and avoid the area."
