Clashes break out in Mamelodi
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Violent clashes have broken out between residents of Mahube Valley in Mamelodi following power outages in the area.
Police spokesperson Johannes Maheso says the two groups clashed after a damaged transformer led to a blackout in the area.
"This conflict started at about 9.00pm on Wednesday. This conflict is between residents of formal houses and residents of informal settlements neighbouring the informal houses," says Maheso.
He says the two groups are blaming each other for the situation.
"There are four houses that have been petrol bombed, but they have not been burned to the ground. There are several structures in the informal settlement that have been burned down," says Maheso.
Police have been deployed to monitor the situation.
"The roads which were barricaded with burning tyres and rubble have been cleared," says Maheso.
No arrests have been made and there are no reports of any injuries.
